When I started my journey almost 10 years ago, there wasn't much talk about rehabilitation or peer support. Addiction, especially for women with children, honestly was kept a secret if possible.
Now, because of some very brave and vocal individuals, addiction and mental health struggles are becoming common in conversations! With overdose on the rise, fighting the worst mortality rate we have seen in my lifetime, the problem can be navigating all the options out there.
Community support, in-patient & outpatient programs, medication-assisted treatment, and so on, individuals & their families need help navigating it all. We never think to research & make a plan, we just get thrown into the deep end of a crisis. Emotional & anxious is no way to make decisions during a difficult situation. See Thru Recovery has done a lot of researching for you.
After my addiction spiraled out of control, "Eye" thought about RECOVERY often. But I had only heard or seen stories from big cities, from people with "big money!" How was a small town girl like me ever going to find recovery? Who could mentor me when I had never met anyone that fought addiction and won?
A lot has changed since then.
Now, with access to platforms like YouTube, TikTok, Kindle, and many social media outlets, there are people sharing their stories! Choosing to break the stigma that silence causes. Along with this comes the ability to relate and become inspired that RECOVERY IS POSSIBLE no matter what culture, economic status, ethnicity, gender, or childhood trauma you come from.
There are so many stories out there & See Thru Recovery serves as a "Nerve Center" for many of them. Some of the most popular peers are hyperlinked to their page so you can continue to read on & support them as well.
If you came looking for HOPE that recovery IS possible, you found it! Stories of redemption from right here in our community, that will encourage anyone looking to start their journey.
